The official fire safety guidance to be followed for new builds and alterations in England and Wales is due to receive a considerable overhaul. The full-scale technical review of Approved Document B (ADB) will commence in autumn 2018.
The review has been prompted by Dame Judith Hackitt’s report following the Grenfell Tower fire, which branded the current building regulations ineffective. It will ensure that the contents keep up with technical innovation, modern building practices an fire safety knowledge.
It will be some time before the review is completed and changes to ADB are made. If you are planning building work within the next two years, keep an eye out for changes so that you’re not caught out.
