Is your health surveillance up to date?
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has made it clear it will be inspecting sites that carry out Metal Fabrication through to March 2020.
The focus will continue to be on control of exposure to welding fumes and metalworking fluids.
The law states that as an employer you should protect your employee’s health by controlling the risks from welding fumes.
In March 2019 the HSE said it would, “no longer accept any welding undertaken without any suitable exposure control measures in place, as there is no known safe level of exposure.”. If you are not following guidelines and you’re caught out, you can expect an improvement notice as a minimum.
Are you going to be inspected?
If you carry out metal fabrication and this is either known to the HSE, or it is obvious that you undertake it as a business, we recommend that you prepare for a visit. If metalwork is only a small part of your business activities you may not be targeted.
If you are unsure what control measures you need in place then you should think about arranging an appointment with one of our Safety & Health Consultants on 0161 926 8519 or contact us.
